Dialogue and Research Institute (DRI) was established in late 2013. It is a transformative human rights, peacebuilding, justice
and democracy working with all communities and national institutions to effect change in public policies, peace justice social
and political accountability. DRI’s has field presence including Unity, Upper Nile and central and Eastern Equatoria States and
monitoring peace indicators, early warning signs of arms and community conflict in the 10 States of South Sudan and
Administrative Areas. DRI works with 58 community volunteers and 29 full time staff in the Country, with offices in Unity,
Rubkona, Rotriak, Bentiu town, Leer and Mayiandit Counties in Unity State and Upper Nile, Renk and Malakal towns. The head
office in Juba cover Juba north, IDPs and migrants of foreign national as well border checkpoints in Nimble supporting
migration and victims of human trafficking in South Sudan. DRI is an advocate and change making organization which is
contributing to transitions from the politics of war to politics of peace by promoting democratic governance and actives
citizenship by peaceful means.
Thematic of DRI expertise include influencing decision-makers to change public policies and practices in ways that will have a
positive impact on the lives of people living in Society and preventing conflict and empowering communities to reduce poverty.
Our main goal is to make advancements for peace building, governance and development and promotion of effective
economics justice, gender equity and humanitarian services as well as political transitional including nonviolence approach to
traditional and natural resources governance such as land, oil, water and borders disputes in the country.
DRI’s promoting peace and reconciliation as well as restorative justice and healing. DRI works with other Civil Societies
Organizations (CSOs) and international actors, INGO, UN, Diplomatic Missions in advancing peaceful resolution of the conflict,
protecting human rights documentation. This is to progressively strengthen the policy and advocacy on transition to peace and
democratic participation to prioritize people’s needs that promote food security, land rights and displacement and resilience,
active citizenship and their participation in decision-making processes. DRI is also an advocate on constitution, justice and
accountability through mirroring policy and advocacy on human rights and peace building mechanisms to enable development
and justice and accountability among institutions such as executive, judiciary and Legislatives Assemblies in South Sudan.
Gender mainstreaming: As a promoter of humanitarian services, human rights, DRI takes gender equality seriously and is keen
on promoting women and youth’s voice and considers it at national, as well as State, County, Payam, Boma and village level.
We believe that gender equality is an important tool for development as well as formal and informal institutions in the
country. DRI is working for peace by reconciling broken trust between communities, legislators and judiciary governance in
South Sudan. As such, DRI believes that effective governance along sides’ governance and accountable institutional
infrastructures can promote democratic governance leading to peaceful coexistence, prevent war and atrocities and enabled
stability and human security conceptualization in South Sudan. The South Sudan is transitioning from war to peace through
development and democratic institutions.
In vacuum of ineffective leadership at constituencies, citizens need to develop the ability to build consensus, that advocate for their own societal aspirations by initiating dialogue with institutions and private sectors organizations to pursue common future for all in order to establish peace and diversity. It is believed that a weak governance structures and lack of effective civic institutions can lead to broader failures of state, creating conditions for further corruption, violence, hunger and poverty, that can perpetuate gender based violence in an already fragile South Sudan. Delivery of fair and equitable citizen services requires government responsiveness and accountability by duty bearers to change historical human suffering at subnational and national level including security sector reform and systematic judicial reform and human dignity.
